What did I forget, when I opened the trunk of my car this morning to unload the war wagon?
The keys to my gun cases. F*** me!
Thank goodness some fellow shooters were able to help me break the locks. Geez……….
But today was fun. Shot a few side matches. I really enjoy the long distance rifle stuff, and I really glad that my Lightning is working out now, cause I’ve been afraid that it would just turn out to be an expensive wall hanger. The speed rifle is always fun, since my ’73 is faster than me, but I’m slowly getting the hang of it. I thought the speed rifle would be some simple Neveda Sweep, but it turns out I had to actually think and pay attention to counting the rounds as I shot. my best time was around 6.18 secs for ten rounds. Up in NH a few weeks ago, I did a simple sweep in 5.15 sec. Not sure what the winning time turned out to be.
My pocket pistol stage went sort wrong, think I might need to practice more with it. I had to do two sweeps of five in a 2 -1 – 2 pattern, reloading on the clock. Somehow, someway, the fireing pin wasn’t hitting the primer, so it wasn’t firing. 5 sec penalty for each. The first time I side a pocket pistol, I was able to do a sweep of five shots in 3.71 secs, I think the winner came in around 2.9 something. btw……it’s a Harrington and Richardson .32 cal, top break pocket pistol from the 1880’s. Original I think, again, another old time firearm that’s been in the family so long, nobody can recall where it came from.
Tonight’s social hour was fun, got to play Faro, and learn some history about it, along with the dirty history of Wyatt Earp. Sorta cool. Interesting how this simple game lead to alot of shootings. Guess they didn’t call it the Wild West for nothing.
Got to met one of the founders of SASS/CAS tonight, he was pleasantly surprised to learn that SASS/CAS turned out to be the force that solidified my interest in shooting, and is slowly exposing me to other disciplines. Which I’ll need to buy more guns for.
There was also a bunch of way cool firearms on display, and for sale. I can’t buy handguns out of state, and I’m thankful for that, otherwise I’d go overboard, and get into debit way fast. But with the rifles, I can buy out of state, and I showed good restraint today. Even though I have a ’66 Sporting Rifle on my wish list, I ignored the whisper in the wind to purchase one. But the guy selling the single shot long range rifles, was putting up a good sell. He know I want one, but with lack of places to shoot it regularly, I won out. Which means I didn’t buy.
Here’s a touch of my kind of Gun Porn:
I was also able to hold, and get a sense of the grip on a number of revolvers today, since I’m looking for a backup pair. And the Uberti 1858 conversions in 38spl fit my hand like a glove. I think I have some research to do regarding these………..
