Shot Shell Additives

You might see a pile of sawdust, but I see a pile of woodshavings to be added to my black powder shot shells for added flame powder.

Poor man’s guncotton? I am a total moron about this.

    • No. Not guncotton.

Basically, it’s a type of filler, some folks use cream of wheat. But I’m using it as an additive to the powder charge so that it add’s to the flame coming out of the muzzle. Strictly for style points.

You can also use iron filings, as the sparkle on the way out. Sort of like fireworks.

Other people use, have used, powdered aluminum. But the problem with that, and guncotton, is that it can drastically increase pressures, that way surpass magnum smokeless loads, which would result in the type of boom that could ruin one’s day.

But come to think of it, I could probably use this sawdust with my cap and ball guns.
