Walker

Been airing out my Walker the past few weekends.

It was really rough working it, so I took it apart, cleaned all the crap out of it (it was 2nd hand), and noticed how rough all the parts were.  It’s an Armi San Marco clone, and everything made chunks of broken asphalt look high polished.

After cleaning it all, I noticed it was still rough to work, so I ordered a stoning kit from Brownells and went to town.  It came with instructions, which was helpful, and was easy to use.  They mentioned to oil the stones with honing oil or kerosene, but I had neither, so I used Balistol instead.  A cheap alternative to Balistol is Mineral Oil from the local drug store.

I stoned the hammer, trigger, bolt, hand, and the hammer and hand slots on the frame.  It’s really amazing what a simple stoning job can do.  Only draw back is the hammer spring, can reduce that all that much, since you need it to set of the caps.  Lighten said spring, and all you’ll get is a bunch of ‘click’s, and that’s no fun.

Only thing now is that I need to get some hi temp wheelbearing grease for the base pin.  I was using natural lubes like Frog Lube, Olive Oil, or even Balistol on it, but it was all get blown out from the first inch of the base pin, which led to binding which required cleaning after each cylinder, and that gets old real quick.

Back to the stones….the instructions said to clean the stones after each use, and I used regular warm water and dish soap, and it all cleaned up nicely.

Now if I could just fix that damn lever from dropping from each shot.  Yes I use full house loads of real black, so cutting the load down to 20 or 30 grains doesn’t work for me, I might as well go back to shooting 38spls.
